UWF Art Gallery Presents “In Between,” a Summer Residency and Open Studio Exhibition by Marzia Ransom

The public is also invited to visit his studio, which is open every Friday in the summer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will take place on Thursday, September 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with live music and refreshments. Discussion regarding Ransom’s second solo exhibition at TAG began when she received a commission from Saint Mary’s Basilica in Alexandria, Virginia, the first Catholic parish in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Working in oil and gold leaf, Ransom painted a sacra conversazione, or “sacred conversation,” as well as a large-scale triptych depicting the Dormition and Assumption with archangels. For her current work, Ransom draws on Italian and Northern Renaissance iconography to interrogate the multifaceted historical and apocryphal role of the Virgin Mary as woman and holy figure.

During her residency, Ransom, a UWF alumnus with an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, works with a team of students in the style of a Renaissance bottega, teaching the pigment making, drawing, development of daily practice and gold leaf. application.
