With an influx of in-person activities taking place throughout the State College community, it’s no surprise that art exhibits and live performances have seen a recent upsurge.

From musicals and plays to facilities showcasing unique forms of artwork, here’s a list of new and upcoming cultural activities to experience at State College and Penn State.

Exhibitions

“Place to Place: Recent Donations of American Drawings and Watercolors, 1900-1950”

On display until December 12 at the Palmer Museum of Art, this collection of over 20 drawings and watercolors is a recent addition to the museum’s collection.

The collection includes images from various locations in the United States and Europe. Spanning a 50-year period from 1900, the works of art on display highlight the work of traveling artists, ultimately contrasting people’s inability to travel during the coronavirus pandemic.

Monthly functionality at the gallery store

As part of its monthly art exhibition, the Gallery Shop de Lemont will continue to display the work of two local artists in its atrium until September.

The works of Anne Kenyon, landscape designer, and Cheri Yarnell, ceramist, feature representations of nature and textured pottery works.

Artistic reception for “Wind Spirits”

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on October 26, HUB-Robeson Galleries will host a reception for their current exhibition at Art Alley.

“Wind Spirits” is a collection of works of art that highlights bird diversity and the impacts humans have on the environment.

Reception is open to everyone, but visitors are asked to confirm attendance through OrgCentral if they can.

Performances

Central Pennsylvania State Scene

As part of its fall 2021 season, Center Stage will present “The Curious Incident of the Dog at Night” in the morning at 2 pm and in the evening at 7:30 pm from Sept. 28 to Oct. 31, 9 in the Playhouse Theater.

Based on Mark Haddon’s book, Tony Award-winning play by Simon Stephens tells the story of a young boy who tries to solve the mysterious incident behind the death of his neighbor’s dog.

“Online ticket sales for all shows in the 2021-22 season are available now, with in-person and phone sales from noon to 4, Monday through Friday at the Eisenhower Auditorium,” according to the website. by Center Stage.

Opulence: Drag Ambassadors at Penn State

Continuing its fall semester performance lineup, Opulence will host a live drag show on September 23 at 3 Dots Downtown.

With the doors opening at 8 p.m. and the show starting at 8:30 p.m., the show will feature several drag artists performing various songs.

A cash cover charge of only $ 5 will be collected at the door and seating will be limited.

The Penn State Thespian Society

The Thespians will kick off their fall 2021 season with a production of the musical adaptation of “Little Women” by Allan Knee, Jason Howland and Mindi Dickstein.

The play, based on the novel of the same title by Louisa May-Alcott, will take place October 7-9 at Auditorium Schwab. Execution times have not yet been announced.

Theater without refund

Continuing its first series of fall semester shows, NRT will present two separate productions from September to October.

From September 30, NRT will broadcast “The Vagina Monologues” by Eve Ensler until October 2. Less than two weeks later, NRT will broadcast “A Stand-Up Guy” by Thomas Steele from October 14-16.

All NRT programming will be broadcast free of charge in the 111 Forum Building, with Thursday broadcasts starting at 9:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday broadcasts starting at 8:00 p.m.

State College Community Theater

The State College Community Theater will present a production of Tennessee Williams’ hit memory play, “The Glass Menagerie,” October 7-10 at The Lodge in Tussey Mountain.

On sale now, regular admission tickets cost $ 25, and student, senior, and military tickets cost $ 20.
