Two art exhibitions open at Spiva Center for the Arts – Newstalk KZRG
JOPLIN, MO – The George A. Spiva Center for the Arts is proud to announce two upcoming exhibitions:
They are Rob Mango: civilization, surrealism and humanity and Local Color: Joplin Reflections. The exhibits will be the last in the historic Cosgrove building before Spiva moves to the Harry M. Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex in the fall.
Mango is a painter-sculptor from New York who has exhibited extensively in the United States, New York and Europe. He has kept an active studio in New York since 1977. His three-dimensional paintings are a unique invention held in private and corporate collections around the world.
Rob’s works have been reviewed in Art in America, Art Forum, ARTS magazines, The Huffington Post and The New York Times. His artistic subject includes allegorical paintings of cities, male and female figures, portraits and three-dimensional paintings. In 2015, a monographic work entitled: “100 Paintings; an Artist Life in New York City” was published by No Room for Doubt Inc.
The Local Color exhibit celebrates 150 years of Joplin’s colorful history. Local Color Art Gallery artists and their students (ages 6 to adult) will be exhibiting works of art in glass, oil, acrylic, watercolour, collage and mixed media. Explore over 90 works of art, each telling an illustrated story of Joplin’s 150th anniversary. The exhibit will feature interpretations of historic architecture, famous Joplin natives, and the lead and zinc mining that made Joplin a booming town.
- The opening reception for both exhibitions will take place on July 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The exhibitions will run from July 30 to October 29, 2022.
- Mango will host an Artist Talk on Saturday July 30 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m..
All events are free and open to the public.
