Savannah Cultural Arts Center Launches Grant, Offers Free Rental Space
The Savannah Cultural Arts Center (SCAC) has launched the Spotlight Facilities Utilization Program, a grant that will give a local non-profit organization the opportunity to purchase rental space at a free or reduced rate from the SCAC.
The SCAC opened in 2019 and is hosting what it hopes will be the first full year after closing due to the pandemic in 2020.
Since reopening in October 2021, the center has hosted many events, but SCAC’s performing arts program coordinator David Higdon said there were still plenty of organizations that hadn’t had the opportunity. opportunity to put on a show or who didn’t know what the center had. to offer.
“What we thought would be a great introductory way to welcome more organizations and primarily nonprofits would be to offer this Spotlight grant,” Higdon said.
Grant amounts are based on the organization’s most recent operating budget. Organizations with an operating budget of less than $50,000 will be able to rent the Ben Tucker Theater or the Studio Theater free of charge. Those with an operating budget greater than $50,000 to $150,000 can rent the rooms at a discounted rate of $25 per hour. Budgets of $150,001 to $250,000 will be able to buy rent at $50 an hour.

The rental comes with a performance on Friday or Saturday, a technical rehearsal, a general rehearsal, an audiovisual technician, a reception staff, an SCAC manager, a cleaning crew and use of the concessions area.
The subsidy does not only apply to performances.
“As long as it’s something that culturally enriches the community, it’s something we can do. So whether it’s a film screening, an artist talk or a author, or some kind of workshop – something they might want to put on – they can apply for this Spotlight Grant. So it’s just about providing opportunities for nonprofit organizations to expand programming, outreach and community outreach.
Grant applications close May 22 at 5 p.m. The notice of allocation to organizations will be sent on June 1st.
