Preston’s town center shop transformed into a contemporary art gallery
An exhibition showcasing exciting contemporary art has opened in Preston city centre.

The Turning Point features works created by nine local professional and emerging artists.
A shop near the Flag Market, which had been empty for months, has been transformed into an art gallery for just over two weeks.
The exhibition features works by Gavin Renshaw, who you may know from his large-scale downtown Mile 0/21 mural of a scene from The Guild Wheel between Avenham and Miller Parks, oil paintings oil by Norman Long, works by multi-disciplinary artist Florian Houlker who was one of the artists in residence at Grizedale Forest in 2021, works by printmaker and artist Rachel Thornton, abstract pen drawings by Luke Primmer and ink paintings by Francesca Aikman. Also on display are Tao Lashley-Burnley, Sara Nowell and Kathryn Poole.
Artist Francesca Aikman said: “I felt there was a need for Preston to showcase contemporary art as most local artists exhibit in other towns.
“That could then, in turn, attract other professional artists to come and exhibit here in Preston, putting the city on the map.”
The transformed exhibition space sits perfectly between Nando’s and Preston’s oldest building, home to Thomas Yates Jewellers, opposite The Harris and the Flag Market.
The Turning Point runs until Saturday 5 March at 32 Market Place, Preston, PR1 2AR. The exhibition is open Wednesday to Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
