“We are delighted to have a gallery that is solely dedicated to the arts,” said Lanning. “It is not a shared place, it is only for the arts and the presentation of the arts.”

Lanning said the gallery has been under construction for six years.

“When I became a curator, one of my very first meetings was about the need for a new facility and a new art gallery here in Weyburn. ”

Named after the very first president of the Weyburn and Arts Council, which was the very first Arts Council in Saskatchewan.

Those in attendance had the opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork for the James Weir competition. Voting is open until March 18 and the awards ceremony will take place at the gallery on March 24 at 7:00 p.m.
