In ‘Garbology,’ New Sanford Art Gallery Explores Consumption, Waste and Value | Things to do | Orlando

You’ll be forgiven for putting down one of Orlando’s favorite institutions this week if you call Hollerbach a bit trashy. That’s because the rowdy German restaurant opened an art gallery upstairs in July (no, really), and that gallery is opening an exhibit called Garbology Thursday. Moriah Russo, director of Haus Art Gallery in Hollerbach, says 15 artists are included in this “trash-themed” exhibition, and while some have followed the expected path and made works from from “discarded, found and/or recycled materials, and post-consumer ephemera”, others were more conceptual in their approach, exploring questions of “consumption, waste and…value” more deeply.

The list of mostly Central Florida-based artists includes loyal friends of this newspaper here Kieran Castaño, Kira Gondeck-Silvia, Richard Reep, Daniel Harris and Leah Sandler (and we were delighted to see a photo of Steph Lister, a former talented local who moved to Oakland a few years ago, on the exhibit flyer). The show runs until October 6, so if you miss the party, you can always stop by for a visit and combine the best (artists in town) with the wurst (on your plate).
