TULSA, Okla. — If you missed all the beautiful works of art in the Gilcrease Museum, you’re in luck! New pop-up art exhibits are set to debut around Green Country this fall.
The decades-old museum was demolished in January and a new museum is currently under construction with an expected completion date of late 2024.
Several years ago, before this rebuild, the Gilcrease Museum’s director of learning and community engagement, Alison Rossi, said her team was planning a long gap to be able to share the museum’s art collection with the community. community. So his team solicited feedback from the community on what people wanted. to see while waiting.
The result was pop-up art exhibits.
Earlier this summer, thousands of Tulsans voted on the three pieces that will make up Gilcrease in your neighborhood or large copied versions of museum art in framed exhibits scattered in and around Tulsa.
Each piece will appear in turn at 31 locations in our community, including the Tulsa Central Library, Center for Equality, Oasis Fresh Market, Mother Road Market, and Turkey Mountain.
Each piece will be exhibited for approximately 3 months before moving on to the next. You can also expect community events, augmented reality experiences, quiz nights, and hikes alongside exhibits.

Rossi told FOX23, “We hope to create many doors for people to walk through so they can interact with this piece of art in unexpected ways and in many ways that suits them.”
The first batch of exhibits is expected to begin at the end of October. The three works of art selected for the exhibitions are a surprise, and each will be revealed shortly before their debut.
