Deputies investigate thousands allegedly missing from Lake County Art Gallery – WFTV

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of missing money at the Leesburg Center for the Arts.

The gallery is located downtown on West Magnolia Street.

New board members reported what they said were inconsistencies in some financial documents.

The sheriff’s office said so far it appears nearly $2,000 has gone unaccounted for.

“So detectives are going to go through a lot of financial documents and compare those documents to a forensic audit that’s just started,” said Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office has named executive director Maria Stefanovic as a suspect.

She resigned earlier this month.

Channel 9 stopped by her home on Thursday to speak to her, but no one answered.
