KFAR Jewish Arts Center presents: Chicago Klezmer Ensemble - A Freylach Medley

At a Wednesday night concert at the Society for the Preservation of Art and Culture in Evanston (S.P.A.C.E.), the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble played a medley of freylachs. Freylach, which literally means 'happy', is a standard dance form in klezmer music; as you can see, the audience availed themselves of the open dance floor. This is the first nine minutes of a medley that eventually lasted nearly 30!

Here, Kurt Bjorling takes the lead on clarinet, with Eve Monzingo on tsimbl, Joshua Huppert and Liz Johnson on violin, and Al Ehrich on bass.

This concert was given at S.P.A.C.E. on June 16, 2010 and was sponsored by KFAR Jewish Arts Center. For more information about KFAR or to learn about more Jewish cultural events going on around Chicago, visit http://www.kfarcenter.org.

note: I know that at 0:30, there is a typo in the title, but note that 'medley' is spelled correctly in the background. The movie editor insisted on truncating the word for some reason. My and Bill Gates' apologies (I'm sure).
