At a Wednesday night concert at the Society for the Preservation of Art and Culture in Evanston (S.P.A.C.E.), the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble played a variety of original compositions and traditional melodies from across the Jewish world. Here is a performance of a Sephardi melody for Lecha Dodi, the acrostic composed by Rabbi Shlomo HaLevi Alkabetz in the 16th century in Tzfat. The poem welcomes the Sabbath Bride.
Here, Kurt Bjorling takes the lead on clarinet, with Eve Monzingo on tsimbl, Joshua Huppert and Liz Johnson on violin, and Al Ehrich on bass.
This concert was given at S.P.A.C.E. on June 16, 2010 and was sponsored by KFAR Jewish Arts Center. For more information about KFAR or to learn about more Jewish cultural events going on around Chicago, visit http://www.kfarcenter.org.
