The 2010
Chicago International Film Festival awarded a
Silver Plaque to Israeli filmmaker Avi Nesher for his entry
The Matchmaker. “Silver Plaque to
The Matchmaker (Israel) for the lighthearted but touching way it describes a coming of age in an Israel torn between memory & desire.”
Set in Haifa during the 2006 Second Lebanon War, the protagonist Arik recalls his own emergence (and that of the State of Israel) in 1968 following the Six-Day War as he befriends a Holocaust survivor Yankele, masterfully played by Ophir Award Winner Adir Miller.
