Punk-Klezmers Golem have released a new album,
CITIZEN BORIS, on Jdub Records. Bandleader Annette Ezekiel Kogan talk about the new album on the
Nextbook podcast
The New Yorker calls Golem "Stellar! A wild edgy approach with a reverence for Old World tradition." The Washington Post says "Golem produces the sort of music you'd expect if the shtetl were filled with punks instead of peasants."
Golem has whipping up clubs with their raucous renditions of Southern and Eastern European melodies. KFAR has presented them twice!! (We are, admittedly, fans.) Usually, their matieral is in Russian, French, English, and, of course, Yiddish. On Citizen Boris, Golem explores the new realm of English with original material written by its frontwoman, singer and accordionist Annette Ezekiel Kogan, covering love, death, vacuum cleaners, and U.S. citizenship tests.
