After a successful tour of Cuba this past Fall, Sephardic music revivalists
Roberto Rodriguez and
Sarah Aroeste founded the
AROESTE-RODRIGUEZ CUBAN JEWISH MUSIC PROJECT.
Their lofty aim is to promote Cuban Jewish life through music, develop and record new Cuban-Sephardic songs, and build a JEWISH MUSIC LIBRARY based in Havana, with satellites throughout the island in Camaguey, Santiago, Guantanamo, Santa Clara and Ciengfuegos. They are seeking donations of recordings:
"We are currently asking for help supplying the libraries with music-- in all Jewish music genres (classical, folk, yiddish, klezmer, Sephardic, Mizrahi, Israeli, punk, rock, jazz, children's, avant garde, hip-hop, etc). We have already collected hundreds of CD's to start building up the libraries, but we need more! Have any old Jewish music CD's lying around? Are you a Jewish musician who would like to donate copies of your music? CD's & songbooks can be used but in good condition. We are also in need of used discmen or small portable CD players. In the age of mp3 players, have any old CD players you can spare?"
The next shipment leaves at the end of April, so donate your Jewish music CD's, songbooks, or discmen/CD listening devices, please send donations to:
