What do an obscure 11th century Spanish Rabbi and a 21st century Rapper have in common?
More than you might think! In many ways, the Rabbi-Poets of Andalusia were the rock stars of their day with groupies and all! We’ll compare and contrast the liturgical poem (piyyut) Hamavdil penned by Rabbi and Pyatan Itzhak ibn Ghayat with the lyrics of P. Diddy (aka Puff Daddy etc.). The session is geared toward young adults and adults, from high school on up. In the course of the session participants will learn about the history of the Piyyut, its structure and rhetoric. They will also gain a new appreciation for the Golden Age of Spanish Jewry, the Havdalah service and instill a new understanding of liturgical poetry.
