S.H.E.M.A. is a community building initiative at the congregational level focused through the lens of arts and culture programming. It compliments the work of the Chazan or congregational cultural committee, and is customized to fit the needs and scale of the institution while bolstering its ability to deliver quality arts and culture programming.
Congregations participating in S.H.E.M.A. enjoy synagogue-based, community-building, education-oriented explorations of contemporary Jewish expression. The initiative adapts up to five modules of KFAR’s existing public programs for the institutional setting. The components can “stack” for a vertically integrated programming solution, or can also be used in stand-alone fashion to interface existing efforts. In a sense, it is “KFAR in a box.”
Modules range from small specialized artists’ workshops to large format concerts, encompassing a localized and customized package of KFAR’s programming executed in partnership with the congregation and promoted as KFAR programs.
The modules engage members on multiple levels, developing an arts affinity group within the congregation that can in turn enrich congregational life and involvement.
