SUMMARY:Golem Rocks
DESCRIPTION:Contrary to popular belief, Golem is neither a towering Je
wish Frankenstein who defended the Jews of 17th Century Prague, nor a
creature from Lord of the Rings. Golem is a 6 piece Eastern European f
 olk-punk band.\n\n<a href=\"http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEvent

 <img src=\"http://www.kfarcenter.com/images/ticketweb.gif\"/></p>\nYou
ng, hip widely acclaimed New York-based Klezmer/Rock band GOLEM transf
orms the music of its Jewish grandparents, making it modern, edgy, sex
y and brash. Their explosive onstage attitude gets Klezmer to rock.\n\
nFronted by Annette Ezekiel - bandleader, accordionist and singer - as
well as madcap vocalist Aaron Diskin and violin virtuoso Alicia Jo Ra
bins, the band's six members, all in their 20's and 30's, create GOLEM
's powerfully vibrant sound. With updated versions of old Yiddish tune
s, Golem seduces audiences of Klezmer fans and rockers alike, and is e
qually at home as rock clubs, synagogues, and concert halls, from Linc
oln Center's Damrosch Park to the rock clubs of the Lower East Side.\n
 \nTheir performance is a veritable party with a historical message - e
ach song evokes old-world cities longed for by homesick Jewish immigra
nts: Odessa, Romania, Bukovina, Nikolayev, Belz and Bialystok as well
as wild gypsy songs learned during travels in Serbia, Russia, and Ukra
ine. The result is a musical romp through Eastern Europe and A snapsho
t of shtetl life through the filter of a much younger generation's eye
 s.\n\n\"A Gypsy-punk gem!\" - SPIN.com\n\"Golem produces the sort of m
usic you'd expect if the shtetl were filled with punks instead of peas
 ants.\" - The Washington Post\n\"Stellar! A wild edgy approach with a
reverance for Old World tradition.\" -The New Yorker\n\"An edgy spin o
n the Eastern European music of their Jewish grandparents...\" - Time
Out Chicago\n\nAppearing with...\nBlack Bear Combo is a raucous mutt i
nspired by traditional music from eastern Europe and the Balkans, filt
ered through noise, freejazz and rock. They've played many shows with
many great bands at rock clubs, basements, and festivals across the co
untry, weddings, funerals, Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans, the Hall
oween party at the White House, and much more.\n\nPLUS DJ's Gitana Ang
ela and Romasoul for your dancing pleasure.\n<a href=\"http://www.tick
